When you have a child with a serious illness, one of the hardest things to do as a parent, initially, is to watch your child’s personality be shaped by all of those who take part in their care. Then you recognize what an enriching gift these individuals bring to a life. These healthcare providers--nurses, doctors, social workers and other medical staff members--impact the personalities and characters of their young patients with their own sense of humor, acceptance, play, hope, care and honesty. In so doing, they are received with trust and partner with parents in molding these special children into the courageous spirits that inspire all of us.
As a grassroots organization that struggles for survival, growth and health, we too are being constantly sculpted, encouraged and comforted by the many supporters--donors and volunteers who have helped to shape and maintain the integrity of our organization.
Thirty-five years and 20,000 families later we are reminded of the time and talents given us by so many volunteers, the very generous and kind donations of thousands of donors, the leadership of teachers and enthusiasm of students bent on making a difference, the philanthropic spirit of business leaders, the sensitivity of community and civic organizations, the responsibility and guidance of board members, and the hard work, creativity and selfless dedication of our caring staff.
While our work is done in Kelly Anne’s name, our mission was developed as a way to give back to so many friends and strangers who comforted and helped our family during our darkest days. My late husband, Joe, had the vision and compassion to start this fund. Thanks to people like you we have brought that vision to fruition by becoming one of the most reliable and respected resources for families with seriously ill, disabled, and injured children nationwide.
Thank you for sharing this journey with us!
